correlating
Establishing statistical relationships
Correlating is finding or showing connections between things.
Data analysts spend time correlating variables to discover patterns: We're correlating sales figures with weather data.
The word implies systematic comparison rather than casual observation.
When things correlate, they tend to change together—though correlating two phenomena doesn't prove one causes the other.
