red corpuscle
Oxygen-carrying cell
A red corpuscle is a red blood cell—the disc-shaped cells that carry oxygen through the bloodstream.
The term is slightly old-fashioned; *red blood cell* or the technical *erythrocyte* are more common in contemporary usage.
The patient's red corpuscle count was dangerously low.
