control surfaces

Aircraft maneuvering components

Control surfaces are the movable parts of an aircraft that a pilot manipulates to change direction or attitude—ailerons for rolling, elevators for pitching, rudders for yawing.

The term extends to similar components on rockets, missiles, or underwater vehicles.

In interface design, control surfaces sometimes refers to the interactive elements of a dashboard or mixing board.
