cols

Passes between peaks

Cols is the plural of col, a mountain pass or the lowest point on a ridge between two peaks.

The term comes from French and appears mainly in geographical and mountaineering contexts: We crossed several cols on the traverse.

In meteorology, a col is the low-pressure area between two anticyclones.
