coconut sugar
Tropical tree sweetener
Coconut sugar is a sweetener made from the sap of coconut palm flower buds.
The sap is boiled down to produce granules with a caramel-like flavor, darker than white sugar.
Marketed as a natural alternative to refined sugar, it's popular in health-conscious cooking: I substituted coconut sugar in the recipe.
Also called coconut palm sugar.
