saccharin
Zero-calorie sweetener powder
Saccharin is an artificial sweetener, the first commercially produced sugar substitute.
It's intensely sweet but calorie-free, once common in diet sodas and pink packets at diners.
The adjective saccharine (usually spelled with the final -e) means cloyingly sweet or sentimental: a saccharine love song, saccharine greeting-card verse.
