maple syrup

Boiled tree sap

Maple syrup is a sweet, amber-colored syrup made by boiling down the sap of maple trees, particularly sugar maples.

It's most associated with northeastern North America, especially Vermont and Quebec.

The genuine article is distinguished from cheaper imitations made with corn syrup and artificial flavoring: We only use real maple syrup on our pancakes.
