chestplate
Front body shield
A chestplate is a piece of armor covering the front of the torso, protecting the chest and vital organs.
Historically worn by soldiers and knights, chestplates were typically made of metal and often paired with a backplate to form a cuirass.
In modern contexts, the term appears in fantasy games and fiction where characters equip armor, and in sports equipment like motocross or lacrosse protective gear.
The knight's chestplate bore his family crest.
