cartogram

Distorted data map

A cartogram is a map in which geographic areas are distorted to represent a variable other than land area—typically population, GDP, or election results.

Countries or regions appear larger or smaller based on the data they represent rather than their actual size: The cartogram showed China and India dwarfing Russia.

The technique sacrifices geographic accuracy to make statistical patterns immediately visible.
