Science of maps
Cartographies is the plural of cartography, the science and practice of making maps.
The term appears when discussing multiple mapping traditions, systems, or approaches: Indigenous cartographies encoded knowledge differently than European ones.
Figuratively, cartographies can mean various ways of charting or representing any domain: the competing cartographies of desire in her novels.
