carriageway

Road's driving surface

A carriageway is a road or the part of a road used by vehicles.

In British English, a dual carriageway has lanes separated by a central barrier—equivalent to American "divided highway." A single carriageway lacks this division.

The term appears mainly in British traffic signage and road terminology.
