shotgun house
Linear floor plan
A shotgun house is a narrow rectangular dwelling, typically one room wide, with rooms arranged in a straight line from front to back.
The name supposedly comes from the idea that a bullet fired through the front door could exit the back without hitting anything.
Common in the American South, especially New Orleans, these houses were built for working-class families from the mid-1800s through the early 1900s.
They renovated an old shotgun house in the Bywater neighborhood.
