flyover

Road crossing above

A flyover is a bridge carrying one road over another, called an overpass in American English.

In aviation, a flyover is a ceremonial flight passing over a location—military jets at a stadium, planes honoring a funeral.

As an adjective, flyover describes the middle of the United States that coastal travelers fly over rather than visit: flyover country, flyover states.

The term often carries condescension.
