broadax
Wide-bladed felling tool
A broadax is a large ax with a wide, flat blade, used historically for hewing logs into squared timbers.
Unlike a felling ax, the broadax has one flat side, allowing the user to work close to a surface without gouging it.
The tool was essential in timber framing before sawmills became widespread.
Also spelled broadaxe.
