wood plane
Board smoothing tool
A wood plane is a hand tool for shaping and smoothing wood surfaces.
It consists of a flat base with an angled blade that shaves thin layers from the wood as the tool is pushed across it: He ran the plane along the board until it was perfectly smooth.
Different types—jack planes, block planes, jointer planes—serve different purposes in woodworking.
