bricked

Dead as hardware

Bricked describes an electronic device rendered completely unusable—as functional as a brick.

A phone, game console, or computer becomes bricked when a failed software update, botched modification, or corrupted firmware leaves it unable to start: I tried to jailbreak my phone and bricked it.

The term emerged from tech communities where tinkering sometimes produced expensive paperweights.
