unbrick

Fix dead electronics

To unbrick is to restore a device—typically a phone, tablet, or gaming console—that has become completely unresponsive, usually due to a failed software update or botched modification.

A "bricked" device is as useful as a brick; to unbrick it is to make it functional again: I managed to unbrick my phone by reflashing the firmware.

The term belongs to tech enthusiast and repair communities.
