bracken
Heathland fern species
Bracken is a coarse fern with large, triangular fronds that grows densely in woodlands and on hillsides.
It spreads aggressively and can dominate entire landscapes: The hillside was covered in bracken.
The word often appears in descriptions of wild, uncultivated terrain.
Bracken turns russet brown in autumn and dies back in winter.
