potash

Wood ash extract

Potash is potassium carbonate or other potassium compounds used primarily as fertilizer.

The name comes from the old method of producing it—evaporating water in which wood ash had been soaked, leaving the mineral residue in the pot.

Potash provides potassium, one of the three essential nutrients for plant growth: Saskatchewan produces much of the world's potash.
