harvesting
Collecting ripe produce
Harvesting is the act of gathering crops or other products when they're ready.
Farmers harvest wheat, fishermen harvest oysters, beekeepers harvest honey.
The term extends to collecting anything accumulated: harvesting data, harvesting organs for transplant.
In computing, harvesting often describes extracting information from systems, sometimes illicitly: The malware was harvesting email addresses.
