boules

Provençal throwing game

Boules is a French ball-throwing game where players toss metal balls toward a smaller target ball, trying to land closest.

The game is played on packed dirt or gravel, often in parks or town squares.

Pétanque is the most widely known variant.

We played boules in the courtyard after lunch.
