back extensions

Hyperextension bench exercises

Back extensions are exercises that strengthen the lower back and posterior chain by extending the spine against resistance.

Typically performed on a specialized bench or Roman chair, you lower your torso toward the floor then raise it by contracting the spinal erectors: I do back extensions twice a week to help with my posture.

The movement can also be done lying prone on the floor.
