hyperextensions
Joints bent backward
Hyperextensions are exercises that strengthen the lower back by extending the spine beyond its neutral position.
Performed on a specialized bench, you lower your torso and raise it by contracting the back muscles: I do hyperextensions twice a week to prevent back pain.
In medical contexts, hyperextension refers to any joint bending beyond its normal range, often describing injuries: a hyperextension of the knee.
