armouring

Adding metal protection

Armouring is the British spelling of armoring—the process of adding protective covering to something.

Vehicles, ships, and buildings may undergo armouring to resist attack: The armouring of the presidential limousine took three months.

The term also applies to protective sheathing on cables or pipes.

As a present participle, it describes the act of putting on or providing armour: They were armouring the troops before battle.
