ERA
Mound performance metric
ERA stands for earned run average, a baseball statistic measuring how many earned runs a pitcher allows per nine innings: His ERA dropped below 3.00.
In American history, ERA also refers to the Equal Rights Amendment, a proposed constitutional amendment guaranteeing equal rights regardless of sex that was never ratified: The ERA fell three states short of ratification. (Lowercase era is a period of time.)
