allografts

Same-species tissue transfers

Allografts are tissues or organs transplanted from one individual to another of the same species—a kidney from one human to another, for instance.

The term distinguishes these from autografts (tissue moved within the same body) and xenografts (tissue from a different species).

Allografts require immunosuppression to prevent rejection: The patient received an allograft from a deceased donor.
