decellularization
Stripping cellular content
Decellularization is the process of removing cells from biological tissue while preserving the underlying structural framework.
The resulting scaffold—stripped of cellular material that might trigger immune rejection—can be repopulated with a patient's own cells to create transplantable organs or tissues: The lab used decellularization to prepare pig hearts for human transplant research.
