airboats

Propeller-driven marsh vessels

Airboats are flat-bottomed watercraft propelled by an aircraft-type propeller and powered by an engine mounted above the stern.

The design allows navigation through shallow water, marshes, and swamps where conventional propellers would snag on vegetation or bottom out.

Airboats are closely associated with the Florida Everglades, used for transportation, hunting, and tourism: We took an airboat tour through the swamp.
