underwater drones
Robotic submarine vehicles
Underwater drones are unmanned submersible vehicles, either remotely operated or autonomous.
They're used for ocean research, pipeline inspection, military surveillance, and recreational underwater photography.
Unlike aerial drones, they navigate three-dimensional space against water pressure and currents: The underwater drone captured footage of the shipwreck at 300 feet.
Also called ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) or AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles).
