adjuster

One who modifies

An adjuster is someone who adjusts—that is, who makes modifications or settlements.

The word appears most often in insurance contexts, where a claims adjuster investigates losses and determines how much the insurance company should pay.

An adjuster may work for the insurer or, as a public adjuster, represent the policyholder's interests instead.
