doff
Take one's off
Doff means to remove or take off, typically clothing or a hat.
The word is old-fashioned and somewhat literary, surviving mainly in set phrases: He doffed his cap in greeting.
It's the opposite of don (to put on), and both come from contractions of "do off" and "do on."
