misplace

Put somewhere forgotten

To misplace something is to put it somewhere and then forget where: I've misplaced my glasses again.

The word implies carelessness rather than loss—the item exists somewhere, you just can't find it.

Misplaced can also describe things directed at the wrong target: misplaced trust, misplaced anger, misplaced priorities.
