deplete

Drain the reserves

To deplete is to use up or drastically reduce a supply of something: The drought depleted the reservoir.

Resources, funds, energy, and populations can all be depleted.

Unlike exhaust, deplete doesn't necessarily mean completely emptied—just significantly diminished: Years of farming had depleted the soil of nutrients.
