West Indies

Islands near Cuba

The West Indies are a chain of islands in the Caribbean Sea, stretching from Florida to Venezuela.

The name reflects Columbus's mistaken belief that he had reached India.

The term encompasses the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico) and Lesser Antilles, along with the Bahamas.
