East Timor

Indonesia's eastern neighbor

East Timor is a small Southeast Asian nation occupying the eastern half of Timor island, north of Australia.

The country gained independence from Indonesia in 2002 after a long struggle, making it one of the world's youngest nations.

Also called Timor-Leste, its official name.

East Timor's economy depends heavily on oil and gas revenues.
