V engine

Cylinders form angle

A V engine is an internal combustion engine with cylinders arranged in two angled banks that form a V shape when viewed from the front.

The angle between the banks—commonly 60 or 90 degrees—affects the engine's balance and compactness.

V engines power most modern automobiles: a V6, a V8.

The configuration allows more cylinders in a shorter engine block than an inline arrangement.
