straight pipe
Tube without curves
A straight pipe is an exhaust system with no muffler or catalytic converter—just a direct tube from engine to tailpipe.
The result is maximum noise and slightly improved engine performance.
As a verb, to straight pipe a vehicle is to remove these components: He straight piped his truck and now the whole neighborhood hears him leave for work.
The modification is illegal for street use in most places but common in racing and among enthusiasts who prioritize sound over compliance.
