inline engine
Straight engine layout
An inline engine is an internal combustion engine with its cylinders arranged in a single row, one behind the other.
This layout is simpler and more compact than V-shaped or flat configurations, making it common in four-cylinder and six-cylinder automobiles: The car has a turbocharged inline-four.
Also called a straight engine.
