timing chain
Camshaft drive link
A timing chain is a metal chain in an internal combustion engine that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft, ensuring valves open and close at the correct moments during each cylinder's cycle.
Unlike timing belts, which are rubber and require periodic replacement, timing chains are more durable but noisier: The mechanic said my timing chain was stretched and needed replacement.
