Tropic of Cancer

Solstice latitude line

The Tropic of Cancer is the circle of latitude at approximately 23.5 degrees north of the equator, marking the northernmost point where the sun can appear directly overhead—which occurs during the summer solstice in June.

The tropics, bounded by this line and its southern counterpart, the Tropic of Capricorn, define Earth's warmest zone.

We crossed the Tropic of Cancer somewhere over the Pacific.
