chai

Cinnamon-cardamom brew

Chai is tea, borrowed from Hindi.

In American English, chai usually means a spiced milk tea with cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and cloves—what Indians call masala chai: I'll have a chai latte.

The phrase "chai tea" is redundant but common.

In much of the world, chai simply means tea of any kind.
