phylactery
Arm-bound scripture case
A phylactery is one of two small leather boxes containing Hebrew scripture verses, worn by observant Jewish men during weekday morning prayers—one strapped to the forehead, the other to the left arm.
The Hebrew term is tefillin.
In fantasy gaming and fiction, a phylactery has taken on a second life as a magical container in which a lich or other undead being stores its soul, making it nearly impossible to destroy permanently.
