Two Towers
Fantasy trilogy centerpiece
The Two Towers is the second volume of J.R.R.
Tolkien's *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy, published in 1954.
The title refers to two of several towers in the narrative—which two has been debated, though Tolkien indicated Orthanc and Minas Morgul.
The phrase now also evokes the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York's World Trade Center towers, a coincidence that complicated the 2002 film adaptation's marketing.
