Spinosaurus

Cretaceous sail-backed predator

Spinosaurus is a genus of large carnivorous dinosaur from the Cretaceous period, distinguished by a dramatic sail-like structure along its spine.

Among the largest known meat-eating dinosaurs—possibly exceeding Tyrannosaurus in length—it had an elongated crocodile-like skull adapted for catching fish.

Recent discoveries suggest it was semiaquatic, an unusual lifestyle for a theropod.
