Celtic tribes
Pre-Roman European peoples
Celtic tribes were the various peoples of ancient and early medieval Europe who spoke Celtic languages and shared related cultural practices.
They dominated much of Western and Central Europe before Roman expansion, from the British Isles to Anatolia.
The Celtic tribes of Gaul resisted Caesar's armies for nearly a decade.
Modern Celtic identity survives primarily in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, and Cornwall.
