identity loss
Forgetting who you're
Identity loss is the experience of losing one's sense of self—who you are, what you value, what makes you distinct.
It can follow major life disruptions: retirement, divorce, leaving a religion, or surviving trauma.
The loss may be partial or profound: After the accident, she struggled with identity loss for years.
Closely related to identity crisis, though loss suggests something has been taken rather than merely questioned.
