Romanize
Convert to Roman
To Romanize something is to make it Roman in character—adopting Roman customs, laws, language, or culture.
The term appears in historical discussions of how conquered peoples were absorbed into the Roman Empire: Gaul was gradually Romanized over several centuries.
The Catholic Church also Romanizes when it brings practices into conformity with Rome. (Lowercase romanize means to convert text into the Roman alphabet.)
