Arabization

Adopting Arabic ways

Arabization is the process of adopting or imposing Arab language, culture, and identity.

The term describes both historical transformation—how Berber, Coptic, and Aramaic-speaking populations became Arabic-speaking over centuries—and deliberate modern policies requiring Arabic in official contexts: Algeria's Arabization policies sparked controversy among Berber communities. (Lowercase arabization is the same word.)
