Ramadan fast
Month-long Muslim fast
The Ramadan fast is the Islamic practice of abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
One of the Five Pillars of Islam, it commemorates the revelation of the Quran to Muhammad.
Muslims break the fast each evening with a meal called iftar: We're hosting iftar tonight—join us after the Ramadan fast ends at sundown.
