Eid al-Adha

Muslim sacrifice holiday

Eid al-Adha is the Islamic "Festival of Sacrifice," one of the two major holidays in the Muslim calendar.

It commemorates Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, who provided a ram instead.

Celebrated at the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage, observances include special prayers, feasting, and the ritual slaughter of an animal—typically a sheep, goat, or cow—with meat distributed to family, friends, and the poor.
